State Systems Development Initiative

The purpose of the program is to improve MCH outcomes in the 59 states and jurisdictions by increasing capacity to collect, analyze, and use reliable data for state/jurisdiction Title V policy and program development. These funds support expansion of data linkages of key MCH datasets for analysis; improved access to and analysis of health equity data; and translation of data into action at the state/jurisdictional level.

Strengthen the Evidence for MCH Programs

Applications due: September 8, 2022

The purpose of this program is to increase the effective design, implementation, and monitoring of evidence-based or -informed strategies by Title V MCH Block Grant programs in order to improve MCH. The goals of the program include:

  • Increased ability of Title V agencies to effectively design, implement, and monitor evidence-based or -informed strategies
  • Increased number of NPM goals achieved each year that contribute to meeting the goals of the Title V NOMs
  • Increased contribution to the evidence base from states and jurisdictions’ implementation of evidence-based or -informed strategies
  • Enhanced and increased publicly available digital resources related to MCH

Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program (HTPCP)

Applications due: October 12, 2022

The purpose of the program is to support community-based partnerships and collaborations aimed at promoting access to health care for under-resourced and underserved children, youth, and their families nationwide, through the implementation and evaluation of new or enhanced community-based projects and models of care. A successful HTPCP project will accomplish the following objectives during the 5-year period of performance:

  • Implement an innovative project to promote preventive child health services with at least one measurable outcome.
  • Form new collaborative relationships with at least 3 community and/or statewide partners.
  • Develop a sustainability plan that includes at least 3 community partnerships and at least 1 funding strategy.
  • If applicable, assess improvement in health promotion and prevention efforts through the use of materials and/or anticipatory guidance from the Bright Futures for Infants, Children, and Adolescents initiative.

Study Finds Increase in Gun-Related Deaths Among Children, Adolescents During PandemicHRSA Disclaimer

Researchers analyzed gun-related deaths in children under 18 years from 2014–2021 and found that deaths from guns increased after the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020. The findings from this study support a CDC study earlier this year that found a spike in youth firearm-related homicides and suicides in 2002. Recommendations from AAP include to not keep guns in the home or to keep them locked and unloaded with ammunition locked separately.
